    Australia or the Commonwealth of Australia is a country located in the Southern hemisphere. It is also the world’s smallest continent. The country is made up of the main Oceania continent, the island of Tasmania and neighboring smaller islands. New Zealand is located in the southeast; the large island of New Guinea lies north as well as Indonesia, East Timor and Vanuatu. The capital city of the country is Canberra while the largest city is Sydney.

    Australia is home to an estimated twenty-two million and six hundred thousand people. Although the country has no official language, the main spoken language is Australian English, a derivative of British English. Australia’s predominant religion is Christianity, Roman Catholic as well as secular. Majority of the remaining percentage has no religion. Australian culture is largely influenced by both English and American cultures mixed in with some native aboriginal and Asian cultures.

    The economy of this huge country is driven largely by its services, financial and tourism industries. It has plenty of landmarks and attractions the most famous of which and the identifying symbol of Australia is the Sydney Opera House. Other famous Australian landmarks are Uluru or Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef. Australia is also home to many unique wildlife not present in any other continent like kangaroos, koala bears and the platypus. It’s a great tourist destination with great tourist facilities.
